Charter

How Northstar works: what we're here for, how ops run, and what we expect from each other.

Version 0.7, in progress. Sections 1 to 3 and section 11 are published here. Sections 4 to 10, covering leadership, ops, money, joining, conduct, communication, and how this charter gets changed, are being finalized and go up when they are done.

We're new, and some things work differently while we're small. Read section 11 first.

This charter explains how Northstar Industrial Co. works. It's written to be looked things up in. If you're ever unsure how something is supposed to work, the answer should be here. If it isn't, that's a gap, and we fix it.

Development notice. Star Citizen is in active development, and its gameplay shifts with every patch. This charter may change as the game does, always with member input, and by member vote once Northstar is established. Our foundation will not: we're a crew that loves industrial work and puts real life first. Members are free to come and go as life allows.

1. About Northstar

What we do, why we do it, and what success looks like

1.1 What We Do Northstar is an industrial org with specialized divisions. Together, we scan the verse for commodities, then extract and deliver them safely wherever they need to go. From there, we refine, build, or sell.

1.2 Why We Do It We love industrial gameplay, so we built an org focused on it. The best work in the verse takes a coordinated crew, whether that's a large-scale operation on the biggest industrial ships or a small, high-value job where precision matters. And even when you're operating solo in deep space, the crew still has your back. Fun always comes first. The earnings follow.

1.3 Who We Are We're people with jobs, families, and real lives, and those come first. When the day's done, we pull on our flight suits, fire up the quantum drive, and head out to explore and harvest the verse.

  • Small by design. Membership is sized to fit the org's needs, so every member has a real place on the crew in the roles they choose. We keep extra room on the roster to cover gaps in availability, but never so much that anyone becomes just another number.
  • We show up ready. We're geared, fueled, and at staging by T-15. At T-0, we depart, and anyone late meets the crew at the op location.
  • We operate lawfully. We never fire first, but we won't hesitate to defend ourselves. When trouble finds us, we protect the crew and the cargo, and that usually means getting out with both.
  • We know each other. Every member gets their moment in the spotlight, and we celebrate the milestones that matter along the way.

1.4 What Success Looks Like

  • Our home port. Northstar is where members come back to after every run. When the game allows, it becomes a base on our own land, built out and decorated our way.
  • Always improving. Sharper skills, better gear, smarter ways of working, and a crew that helps each other get there. Every op teaches us something new.
  • Events with purpose. The org hosts an op every month, members can host their own anytime, and every event has a clear goal. Special occasions call for something bigger.
  • A name in the verse. A reputation other orgs trust, and allies who open the door to more strategic operations.

2. How We Operate

No ranks, pick your division, learn in the field, no scorekeeping

2.1 Everyone Is Equal Northstar has no ranks in the field. Every member is part of the same crew, and any member can lead an op, admin or not. Behind the scenes, a small admin team keeps the org running, but that work comes with responsibility, not authority over anyone's time or place on the crew.

2.2 Pick Your Division Every member picks a division when they join, and can change it anytime. We plan each op around those picks, so it's fully crewed and everyone who shows up has a place.

2.3 Learn In The Field We learn from each other on every op. When something goes wrong, we laugh it off, figure out what happened, and adjust for next time. Ships blow up. That's the game. Just get a good clip of it for the crew to enjoy.

2.4 Your Ship, Your Rules Every member's fleet is different, and any ship might be just what an op needs. Ships may be requested, but bringing one is always your choice. When you do, you set the rules aboard, including how many crew it carries, and the Op Lead fills those seats as the op requires.

2.5 We Grow With The Game We build for the game as it plays today, not the one promised tomorrow. New divisions, roles, and tools open when the game supports them and the crew is ready to use them. What's next, and what it takes to get there, is listed in the appendix.

2.6 No Scorekeeping We don't track points, attendance, or contribution. Show up when you can, do the work you enjoy, and that's enough.

3. Divisions

The five divisions, their callsigns, seat priority, and what is open now

3.1 How We're Organized Northstar is built around divisions, each one owning a stage of the operation. Every division has a formal name, used on the RSI page and in this charter, and a callsign, used on comms.

3.2 Your Division Every member picks a division, the one they expect to fly most, and can change it anytime. Pick what you actually want to fly.

3.3 Seat Priority When an op order goes out, that division's members have first claim on its seats for 48 hours. After that, any member can take them, right up to the op. Once a seat is filled, it stays filled.

3.4 Open Seats Any member can take an open seat in any division. It doesn't change your division, and it's the easiest way to try something new.

3.5 Current Divisions

3.6 Until Medical Opens Every member carries basic medical supplies. Ops that take the crew far from help include a medic seat in the op order, open to any volunteer.

3.7 Opening A Division When a division's condition is met, leadership announces it and members can pick it.

3.8 Division Leads Once a division has around five regular members, it can have a Division Lead. Members of that division get first consideration.

11. Starting Out

What works differently while the org is small. Read this one first.

Northstar is new. Until we have ten members and a Co-Lead, a few things work differently. Everything else in this charter still applies.

11.1 Ops Are Scheduled, Not Fixed Dates are set around the Org Lead's schedule and posted at least a month ahead, so everyone can plan. The fixed monthly date starts once ops can run without him.

11.2 Everyone Does Everything Divisions exist on paper, but with a small crew we all scan, all extract, all keep watch. Pick a division if you want one. Nothing is closed to you either way.

11.3 No Seat Priority Yet The 48-hour first claim in 3.3 doesn't apply. Seats are open to every member from the moment the op order goes out.

11.4 Small Ops Are The Norm Three people is a good night right now.

11.5 When This Ends At ten members with a Co-Lead in place, this section stops applying and leadership says so publicly. Nothing here is permanent, and none of it is an excuse to stay ad hoc.
